Seniors leaving is a tough time for us all. It’s sad to leave your friends and your family. It’s especially a heartbreaking time for many siblings who are very close. It means no more rides to school in the morning, no more late night talks, and no more just kicking back at home. You know things will be different in the house too. Sometimes it may even feel like you’ve lost someone close after they are gone.
Take sophomore Emma Atkins. When she was a freshman, her older brother Price left for college.
“It was really sad. I didn’t think I would miss him as much as I did. Things at home were pretty much the same though. Everyone was sad for a while but we got better and everything returned to normal,” she said.
But things at the Atkins household are about to get a whole lot more emotional when her sister, senior Audrey Atkins, will be leaving for TCU this fall. Audrey and Emma are only two years apart and they are very close.
“Everything is going to be different. She’s my best friend. I’m going to miss having her with me all the time to talk about everything that’s going on. I’ll be the only kid in the house, it’s going to be so quiet,” she said. Audrey said that it’s going to be a lot different living without Emma, too. “We’re really close now and it’s going to be hard not being able to see her whenever,” Audrey said.
Junior Brian Lybarger’s brother Alex Lybarger is going away to college, too.
“It will be okay because he won’t try to disturb me, so things will be quieter. On a serious side it’ll be depressing at first because he has always been at my side and there for me,” Brian said. But Brian said they are going to keep in touch because Alex is going to TU.
Senior Margo Mckenzie has a sophmore sister, Madeline, who she will miss as well.
“It’s going to be really hard not seeing Madeline everyday. I’ve lived with her for 18 years and it’s going to be extremely sad when I have to leave. I can’t imagine her not living right down the hall. I even can’t begin to name all the things I’m going to miss about her,” Margo said.
