While the end of the school year is fast approaching and my time is almost up here as a student, I believe Bishop Kelley is making the most appropriate decision in not hiring a new principal for next year.

When Fr. Brian O’Brien took on the role of the president, other administrators pitched in to help fill some of the many duties of the principal. They decided not to fill the principal position for the 2009-2010 school year because they wanted ample time to find the “right” candidate.

However, O’Brien announced that the administrators will continue with their roles next year because they will not be hiring a principal for the 2010-2011 school year. He admitted that part of the reason was financial, in addition to other reasons.

One goal of a LaSallian school is to provide education regardless of financial situation. With the down economy, saving money of one administrator’s salary definitely helps financially.

With O’Brien taking on the role of the president, other administrators help fill some of the many roles of the principal.

Having teachers and other Bishop Kelley administrators come together and help out the school can only help us grow as a community.

We are always promoting community at Bishop Kelley, and it is nice to see it come to life in different forms when the school needs it the most, especially among teachers and not just students.

With the teachers and coaches assisting Mr. Jeff Pratt with Kitchen Patrol (KP) at lunch and helping Ms. McMasters schedule emergency substitutes, teachers show the love they have for their community and the drive they have to see their school succeed.

The students are connected by the classes they take, the after-school activities they participate in and the retreats that bond these peers. Bishop Kelley offers many things that bring us to feel like a community. With daily masses, adoration and clubs, teens have all the opportunities to grow together and create that unbreakable Bishop Kelley bond.

Administrators and teachers have stepped up to the plate to take on extra responsibilities, ensuring nothing will “fall through the cracks.” Countless hours spent at Bishop Kelley is just one testament to their dedication.

Students learn through example and as far as I am concerned, I can’t think of a better example to follow than the teachers and administrators at our school.

These teachers and administrators are great examples of how you take charge when people are in need, and I’m sure with all the help that they are putting in, Bishop Kelley will forever be call a “community.”
