Being on land is not enough for junior Hannah Jo Scott, so she spends her time under water at swim practice. She spends as much time as she can spare at swim practice working as hard as she can to better her skills for the benefit of the team and herself.
“Swimming is really fun and a great way to get involved in school,” Scott said.
From an early age, Scott learned to swim and love it, even if it took her grandpa, a swim coach, to force her into swimming.
“Even though, at the time, I did not want to swim, I am glad I chose to. Swimming has been a great experience, thanks to my grandpa,” Scott said.
Nine years ago, Scott attended her first swimming lesson. From that day, she has gotten better and won many medals. In 2005, Scott placed third in the Junior Olympics.
“Swimming is not something I want to pursue in college; I just do it now because it looks good on a resume and I am good at it,” Scott said.
When she is not in the pool, Scott is an athletic trainer for football and track.
“Hannah knows when there is a time to be serious, and when there is a time to have fun, and I can always count on her,” fellow athletic manager Liz Quinn said.
Trying to juggle school work, swimming, and extracurricular activities and still having time to hang out with friends might be challenging for some students, but Scott carries on with a calm attitude.
“Hannah is the sweetest most dependable person ever, and she works hard every day but keeps a smile on her face,” junior Kristyn Maxwell said. “She also spends a lot of time practicing for swimming to better her swimming skills; she is a role model for me and hopefully for others.”
