Girls are often classified as ones who like pink, spend hours in front of the mirror, and enjoy shopping; but we like to defy all stereotypes once a year and partake in the manliest sport of them all, powderpuff football. This year the juniors beat the freshmen 28-0, the seniors beat the sophomores 16-0 in the semifinals, and the juniors beat the seniors 28-0 in the championship.

The sophomore vs. senior and junior vs. freshmen competitions are hightened during this annual event. The championship game is the goal but two teams stand in the way. This year the seniors and juniors were victorious over the sophomores and freshmen.

The sophomores put up a hard fight against the seniors, their plays and plans were tactical in preventing the seniors from running the ball. Not only were the sophomores prepared, but also dedicated.

“I never missed a practice,” Danielle Cain said. “I wanted everyone to work as a team. Practices were really fun, and we got alot done.”

The junior vs. freshmen competition was a blowout by the juniors, with the score totaling to 28-0. The juniors used their strength, height, and experience to defeat the freshman. Quarterback Claire Kelley and running back  Erin Mcintosh worked together to total  28 points for the juniors.

“Claire Kelley was our key player, but we all worked well together to help her out,” Chandler Clarke explained.

However, through all the sweat and tears winning is not the most important part of this special event. Powderpuff brings people together and gives people the opportunity to come out as a leader.

“The best part about powderpuff was that I got to meet alot of new people and call the plays,” Cain explained.

The game cannot be won by one person taking the ball and running straight down the field. It takes teamwork and communication to get the ball down the field little by little.

“Ariel, Miranda, Cat, Lauren, and I switched off position, so we could turns on the offense. We worked really well together,” senior Ali Nutt said.

The victorious juniors and seniors faced off against each other before the first playoff game. The girls were getting prepared during the school day and were excited to play in the championship game. It was a test of skill and heart that ultimately determined the winner of the game. The seniors were relying upon their speed and the juniors, their arm.

The championship game proceeded the first round of playoffs against Coweta on Nov 11. The devastated seniors lost the game 28-0 to the once -again victorious juniors. The eight seniors took on the outstanding junior team with no avail.

Senior Lindsey Howard said, “ We played hard, but we all got really tired because we had to play the whole game.”

Unlike usual standars the juniors were happy to take advantage of their skill to beat the upperclassmen.

“Even though they only played with eight people, we were still really happy to beat the seniors,” Clarke said.
