Students were shocked when the smaller number of dress up days were revealed. Senior Kat Barlow always gets into the dress up days and goes all out with her costume.

“I usually get pretty into the dress up days because I like to have a lot of fun with it,” Barlow said. “I was very excited to dress as a cat for Halloween vs. Christmas day since my name is Kat.”

Mrs. Maggie Gabel revealed the reasoning behind the loss of a dress up day.

“There was only one less theme for homecoming week due to lack of participation,” Gabel said. “The dress up days were being used as free dress days and that is not what homecoming is about.”

The smaller amount of dress up days did spark more participation in the students. There were also more options for dressing up on the dress up day.

“Student council wanted to come up with dress up days that people actually wanted to participate in,” Gabel said. “Having two themes for each day made it easier to find something to wear.”

Students were excited by broader themes and didn’t use the dress up days as free dress. Mary Jane Woodliff (11) appreciates the proper use of dress up days, since she took part in coming up with the themes.

“At the end of every school year the student council officers and committee chairs meet to come up with the theme,” said Woodliff. “We hoped that with the double theme days that more students would participate, earning back our lost dress up day, and we are pleased with the outcome.”

The winter homecoming dress up day themes are yet to be released, but the widespread participation in fall homecoming dress up days may have earned back the lost day.
