The Decade of Dominance… the girls’ soccer team won ten state championships in a row.  This is an accomplishment no other Comet team has ever done.

The championships spanned from 1999 to 2008.  The girls’ soccer team has won fifteen state championships in total.

Troy Tokarchik, the head coach of the team was a part of all of the championships except the first one, in 1999.

“Some years the team should never have won, while other years nobody would have touched us,” Tokarchik said.  “Every year the team knew they were going to win even if they were not expected to.”

During the ten year streak, the team was different every year.  Not having the same members all ten years makes the accomplishment ever harder.

Assistant coach Maggie Gabel got to be a part of this incredible moment in history as well.  She was able to help coach the team to victory along side Tokarchik.

“I will never forget the community the girls built with one another and traditions they started,” Gabel said.  “They really supported one another and helped each other reach that goal of dominance.”

The team had some unbelievable players who went to Division I schools such as Notre Dame, Arkansas, University of Tulsa, Clemson, Michigan, Oral Roberts University, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, etc.

Kristen Kelley (10), is one of the greats that came through the program.  She was an amazing leader and an amazing player. She continued her soccer career at Oklahoma State University for her four years of college.

“There is no better feeling of accomplishment for all the hard work we put in during conditioning and practices,” Kelley said. “The feeling of scoring a late goal to win by one and then rushing the field to celebrate with my teammates made all the hard work worth it.”

The decade of dominance is one thing every team strives to achieve and is something most people can not say they have been a part of.  This accomplishment is definitely one for the books and will never be forgotten in Comet history.
