The school is having their annual Winter Homecoming dance with a new theme of a 50’s sock hop. They celebrated Winter Homecoming with a week of activities.

During the week of February 11-15, the school had many sorts of dress up days and events after school. There was a decades dress up where students dressed up from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and the 90’s. Some of them were hippies while others dressed up from the rock and roll age.

On Feb. 12, there was karaoke in the commons after school. Students sang their hearts out and rocked out to old and new music such as Frozen and Bon Jovi. Some of the singers included David Papa, George Alaback, Treasure Boykin, Meagan Knapp and Tristan Jones. Principal Jim Franz believes social events are important to the student body.

”Winter Homecoming is a great thing to be a part of, and helps students meet new people,” Franz said.

On the 13th, students dressed as back to the future, space gear. People rocked out in their NASA shirts, space tutus, and space headwear. Some students dressed in attire from the movie Back to the Future.

On the 14th, students wore red and white attire in honor of the pep rally. The freshmen finished in last place, the juniors in third, sophomore in second, and seniors won first. They won the honorary spirit stick and many competitions throughout out the week. Meagan Knapp (12) enjoys getting caught up in the fun of this celebration.

“Homecoming week brings unity in your grade so you can win the spirit stick,” Knapp said.

The Winter Homecoming dance will be March 2 and at Rucker’s Warehouse. Skyla Drummond (9) is looking forward to this final homecoming event.

“I cannot wait to dance with her friends to all their favorite songs,” Drummond said.

The tickets cost $10, and outside forms are in the commons.
