The room is filled with people. The floor vibrates as people dance to the loud music. Almost everybody is on the dance floor. Different colored lights flash everywhere. The theme is fittingly “Bright Lights in the Big City.” Boys wear tuxedos while girls wear all different kinds of dresses. This is the night of their high school lives, prom.

This year’s prom was hosted on April 6, 2019; however, the students started planning for this weeks before. The first step to get ready for prom are usually promposals. A promposal is traditionally where a boy asks a girl to prom in a cute way. This is usually done with a sign with a clever saying on it. Promposals are really the only thing the boy plans for prom because girls tend to take planning for prom a little more seriously.  Girls prepare weeks before the prom trying to find the perfect dress. Once they find it, then they have to find matching shoes, jewelry, and other accessories. Some girls make appointments to get their hair, makeup, and nails done.

Once the students are finally ready they go take pictures with their friends. After taking tons of photos, they go to the dance. As soon as they get to the venue the girls fling off their heels and leave them on the tables, so they can go dance with their classmates. They party all night and make amazing memories that can last a lifetime.

Maggie Gabel, the administrator in charge of helping the junior class board plan prom, felt prom went fantastically.

“Prom was a huge success this year,” Gabel said.

Some students feel like this was the best prom ever. Students like Abbey Farley (12) felt this prom was better than last year’s.

“Prom this year was really fun, actually. There was really good music,” Farley said.

Sam Alaback (11) experienced his first prom and felt it was lots of fun.

“This was my first experience. I had a great time, and I’ve heard nothing but positive things about prom,” Alaback said.

For the senior class, prom can be sweet and sorrowful. This is because it is not only their last big school event before graduation, but also their last school dance. It is a sign that a chapter of their lives is ending and a new one is about to begin.

It will be hard to try to top this year’s prom next year, but who knows? Maybe prom will just keep getting better and better.
