Mr. Oberste gets the bus loaded and warmed up as he watches kids get on it. This is a bus filled with personalities that enjoy being leaders. Just like any school year he looks forward to being in charge of activities within the school and of course Regionals. As the kids make their way to Ada, Oklahoma on a school bus, this is where they will learn how to be great leaders.

What keeps student council going is Mr. Gary Oberste. He is the one who is in charge of student council at school. When he went to school here, to be in student council the kids would elect people to be in it from each class, and those were the only kids that could be in it.

From year to year his role as the Dean of Student Activities has changed. Mr Oberste took over being the advisor of student council during his second year being at the school. He enjoys being the Dean of Student Activities because he gets to help students find their niche in high school and look forward to coming to school each day.

“Mrs. Gabel and I have the very best jobs at BK. We get to help make the high school memories for students. We get to help students discover and develop their leadership skills and create an environment where students like to come to school,” Oberste said.

To maintain a student council led by great leaders there has to be students who have the drive to do just that. A student here at school who enjoys making his school a better place is Tristan Jones (11). Stuco has helped him to become a leader within his school and it has given him the chance to have a voice at school. Being in student council has forced him to go out of his comfort zone and has given him the opportunity to become a leader.

“Stuco has made me like to talk to people if I know them or not and this is a life skill and is needed to live in this world today,” Jones said.

STUCO member Maria De Asis (11) is dedicated to making sure she helps anyone that goes to Bishop Kelley to somehow be involved and feel included.

“We try our best to make everyone included by dances, after school activities, service, etc,” de Asis said.

Events that have helped people in student council interact better with other people is Regionals. As this weekend long event goes on, people like Tristan get to listen to guest speakers speak about their own experiences being a leader and also how to become a true leader.
