On November 15, the grandparent prom took place in the commons. There were snacks, refreshments and lots of fun. Some students along with their grandparents even got up to dance and bust a move. The following Friday, the school held the annual grandparents day. Father O’Brien led a prayer service in the chapel followed by a reception and optional tour of the school.

“I was really excited to spend time with my grandparents. We had a good time,” Cate Jackson (12) said.

Student Council has a service committee, in which one of their tasks is grandparent prom. They paired with the Parent and Teacher organization to set up the decorations and all the tasks at hand to prepare for the grandparents.

When the grandparents arrived, the committee had music playing and they encouraged the grandparents to get up and dance with their grandchild. They had several competitions including who had come the farthest to attend the prom. All the grandparents were grinning ear to ear. Zack Lissau is the Overseer of the Service Committee, in which he assisted planning the grandparent prom and was ecstatic to share his experience.

“I love seeing the joy of the grandparents when they see their grandchildren, it makes family incorporated in the lives of the students and that is why we do it,” Zack Lissau (11) said.

Many grandparents came and joined their grandchildren in prayer which was led by Father O’Brien. The prayer service was held in the De La Salle chapel. There was a morning service for Seniors and Sophomores and also a afternoon service for Freshmen and Juniors. Afterward, there was a reception in the commons which had cookies and refreshments. The grandparents then had the choice to go on a tour of the school. Many of the grandparents got to meet the teachers and reconnect with some old friends.

“I love my grandparents and I’m really glad they came to spend time with me.” Allie Johnson (11) said.

Grandparent prom and grandparents day was a huge success that had a large attendance. The students got to spend quality time with their loved ones and show them where they learn.
