The Comets softball team hit their season record out of the park this year. The softball team finished their regular season with a winning record. This is the first time in the last five years that the team has had a winning record at the end of the regular season.

In 2001 the softball team won the 5A state title. Several years after that, interest in the sport dropped off. The team’s season records became worse. Dropping to a record of 3-18 in 2014. This season the team was relatively small, but they worked and grew together as a team, finishing the regular season with a winning record.

The Comets finished their regular season with a record of 12- 11. Then they headed, to Regionals where they played Glenpool. They were eliminated at regionals by Glenpool, but overall the softball team had a good season.

Saide Boos (11) said that her freshman year they didn’t have a very strong team and only won three games. Her sophomore year was better. Everyone started growing and working together as a team. She said that this season went very well compared to previous years.

“We won a lot of games; we were also competitive in the games we lost. I would say that as a team it’s the closest webbed it has ever been,” Boos said.
Longtime softball fan, Sally Lane said ending the season with a winning record for the first time in awhile shows that the team has really come back and started working together as a team.

“With this new talent and enthusiasm, I look forward to more winning seasons,” Lane said.

Assistant Coach Sam Nelson, first year coach of the Comet’s softball team, said that his favorite part of the season was passing expectations and playing well as a team.

“We played well as a team and put down a solid foundation for seasons to come,” Nelson said.
