“I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win!” echoes come from inside the locker room. Music pumps through the speakers. The stadium is on their feet. The Comets football team suddenly bursts through onto the field, sparks flying, crowd cheering, music blaring, go Comets! The Comet football team defeated McAlester Friday, Oct. 2, sending them to the 5A state playoffs. The boys have had a hard fought battle this season, with 8 wins and two losses. They clenched the district title after beating Coweta, and later celebrated with cake on their home field after beating McAlester. This coming Friday Nov. 7, the Comets will face Skiatook in the first game of the playoffs. Wide receiver Joe O’Connor (11) looks forward to playing in the game this weekend.

“I feel confident about the Comets defense and the depth in our offensive roster,” O’Connor said.

Montrell Cozart (11) has been working hard since his freshman year. Finally getting some more playing time, he is a starting defensive tackle.

“I feel good about the playoffs honestly, I feel like I can contribute more to the team this year,” Cozart said.

Many students will attend this home game on Friday. Brian Limekiller (12) is a member of the Kelley Krazies, a club of students who sit at the front of the stands, lead the cheers, and are overall the loudest and craziest supporters of the sports teams. Other students, like Brian, will be there to support the football team all the way through the playoffs.

“I am super excited to see if the Comets will make it to the championship this year,” Limekiller said.

As the rest of the school waits until Friday, the football players need the support of the school, cheering them on, with high hopes to win state.
