Comets Defending Life took on the nation’s capital with ease for the national “March for Life” which is a rally that protests abortion. Being a Catholic school means our values are Catholic, and abortion is against catholic belief. The March for Life is an event where masses of people against abortion flood the national mall and plea for less abortion. The original March for Life was held in 1974 and was founded by Nellie Gray and takes place annually.

Protesters begin around noon, and go late into the day usually ending with speeches given by protesters. Many teenagers attend this event, and the Comets Defending Life were some of them this year. Math teacher Ms. Cruice was the leader of the BK students on the march. Many students went on the March for Life and according to Cruice they were very active during their stay. This march is important for many people and not just Catholics. One of the large dividers in American politics is abortion, as most democrats think it should be an option, and most republicans think abortion shouldn’t be allowed. Principal Jim Franz feels very passionately about March for Life.

“The most dangerous place for a person to be in this world is in their mother’s womb,” Franz said.

Franz also emphasized that our society is very wrong to believe that it is okay to kill an unborn human. The abortion issue and the division causes protesters to be harassed while protesting. Some people are life-long attendees of this event. Math teacher, Ms. Cruice, said it was her first year going to DC; however, this doesn’t mean she hasn’t been active. Cruise also said she’s been active in the Tulsa March the last 4 years.

This goes to show how serious some people take this event.

Ms. Cruice said 115 students from Tulsa  attended the event, 8 of them were BK students. When asked what her favorite part was from the most recent march was to which she replied saying the entire trip was amazing, the most recent march was filled with drama, but the Comets Defending Life stayed peaceful as they had opposition protests taking place as well.

The weather in Washington D.C. was cold. The protesters standing all day in the freezing weather showed serious devotion by doing so. Overall the Comets Defending Life had a successful trip standing up for their beliefs at the March For Life.
