This year, 18 incoming freshmen tried out for the Spirit Squad. There are 14 girls on the freshman team along with Jacob Visconti, the only guy on the team. Vivian Moon, Caroline Jarboe, and Audrey Welborn are three members on the team.

Moon said the people are her favorite part about being a cheerleader.

“ I really love all the members on the team,” Moon said.

She also said that she loves their uniforms.

“I really like them because they change frequently, making them one of a kind and unique to our team,” Moon said.

Another one of the members on the team is Caroline Jarboe.  She takes the cheering in stride.

“I’ve been doing cheer ever since I was little, it comes naturally for me,” Jarboe said.

Another one of her favorite parts was being able to meet people.

“It’s nice to be able to know people during your first days at a new school,” Jarboe said.

Audrey Welborn echoes many of those sentiments.

“I really love the people and the companionship. Being surrounded by people who have the same interests as you is a lot of fun,” Welborn said.

All students have an opportunity to try out for varsity. Moon, Jarboe, and Welborn are all trying out for varsity next year.

“I’m excited but also nervous, I think it’d be a great experience to be on varsity,” Moon said.

Some of the girls’ excitement also stems from the fact that they get to go to competitions. For the past two years, the varsity team has won state. Moon also says that they have pictures hanging up of the different varsity teams over the past few years. Overall, the girls were both happy and excited to have the chance to be on varsity, and are looking forward to the next school year.
