The school’s Brother Bernadine program is a program for students who look to take their education and service to the community to the next level. It is a program that demands a lot from students but in turn, gives them a lot back. Mr. Franz believes the Brother Bernardine program can greatly help students who want to put in the work.

“The Brother Bernardine program is an excellent opportunity for students who want to push themselves,” Franz said.

Students have a better chance of being accepted into the college of their choice. They also have a better chance of receiving scholarships and awards due to their academics and service. The Brother Bernardine program also greatly increases a student’s chances of being recognized for their academics on a national level.

To enter the program, you must apply as a freshman, preferably prior to the end of the first semester. The entry requirements are very rigorous and require a lot of time and effort. To be eligible for the Brother Bernardine program you must: maintain a 3.75 GPA, take at least 3 honors classes, attend one capstone presentation night, and be involved in at least two extracurricular activities. If students are eligible to apply then they must complete an application, write an essay, and get recommendations from their teachers. After the application process is complete, The program’s staff will review the applications and make decisions on who and who not to accept into the program. Sometime during the fourth quarter, students who were accepted into the program will be informed and will meet with the program’s staff to go through orientation, they will also meet with the school’s counseling department.

Once students are accepted and become a part of the program they will receive numerous benefits not available to students who are not apart of the program. The academic requirements will better prepare students for their higher education and for their career. They will get to enjoy unique enrichment opportunities available exclusively to them. They will have the support of a peer group who are working toward the same goals. They will receive a mentor teacher to help and provide guidance for the Capstone Scholar Project. The last and most important benefit of the program’s benefits is designation as a Brother Bernadine Scholar at commencement and on all college applications.

Freshmen who hope to be accepted into the Brother Bernardine program have very high praise for it, Jacob Visconti (9) Hopes the Brother Bernardine program will help him throughout high school.

“I applied to the Brother Bernardine program because I believe it will be beneficial to my high school career,” Visconti said.

Lukas Gartzke (9) Thinks the Brother Bernadine program will help him beyond high school.

“The Brother Bernardine program will give me great opportunities in college and beyond,” Gartzke said.

Students who are applying for the program know that if they are accepted into the Brother Bernardine Program it will benefit them beyond Bishop Kelley. It will prepare them for life.
