Getting a 36 on the ACT is very challenging, but not impossible. Meet Kelsey Griffin, a senior who made a 36 on the ACT! When she found out about her score, she was shocked, but thrilled!

Halle Edwards is a Stanford graduate, who  knows a lot about the ACT.

“On the ACT, a score of a 34 and up is the 99th percentile. So if you score 34 or higher, you’re in the top 1% of test takers! A perfect 36 is the rarest score of all, only 0.195% of all test takers earned a 36 on the ACT,” Edwards said.

Griffin took it once in 7th grade, once toward the end of sophomore year, and once junior year.

The 36 was not just luck, but a lot of practice. Griffin practiced by taking multiple practice tests, especially in the areas she was not very strong in. For Griffin, math was always the hardest section. For the math, she made sure to narrow down the areas she needed to work on and drilled them, reviewed them, and asked for help when needed. The most regular preparation she did was taking the PSAT class at the school. She went in on Thursdays after school with Mrs. Megan Neely and Mrs. Katie Abboud. Abboud is an English teacher at the school with over 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring the ACT, PSAT, and SAT.

“It is intensely difficult to make a perfect score on the ACT, and it is incredibly fantastic because Kelsey worked so hard to get that score,” Abboud said.

Griffin is not sure what college she is going to attend yet, but she wants to major in neurobiology and political science. After that, she wants to go to law school and start a career in law.

Griffin has applied to many universities and is currently waiting to hear back from some of them.

“I would like to think that it’ll give my resume a more competitive edge,” Griffin said.

Up next for Griffin is college, and she can kiss standardized testing goodbye forever!
