Spring break for the mission trip kids was a great time. In Spring break of this year, 15 kids went on a mission trip to Chicago for service acts with the poor. Those who went on the trip included students in every grade. One freshman, Jackson Glanz, went on the trip over spring break.

“It was a good experience for a freshman to go on an out of town mission trip,” Glanz said.

The trip included visits to places such as the Darst center, an organization concerned with social justice in Chicago. They also visited the Boulevard and other food pantries throughout the poor neighborhoods of Chicago. Mrs Sarah Dicks, a chaperone on the mission trip talks about the Boulevard

“The Boulevard was a great spot to help people just out of the hospital that still needed help or weren’t ready.” Dicks said.

The Darst center was a big part in the trip to Chicago as it included the connections needed to find service opportunities for the students to take part in. The Boulevard, another big location used for service, was a kitchen used to help poor people who were released from the hospital and needed help reinstating themselves back into their lives with the help of the Boulevard kitchen and the Bishop Kelley students.

Every year, campus ministry organizes a mission trip. The mission trips are done to help the students learn what service does and how it can affect people. The mission trip are always taken to a place that has lasallian ties. Chicago has the Darst center, created by Brother David Darst, a Lasallian brother.

The reason the mission trips are done is to show kids the poor and needy that need help.

JD Cox, a sophomore on the trip, said “I didn’t really know why BK did missions until I went on one.”

The Mission provides students with a good opportunity to learn things they don’t know about other people and places that need outside help
