And the crowd goes crazy after the new stadium build at the school!  The school is wrapping up The Championship Drive by building the new stadium. The Championship Drive is a three phase expansion to the stadium that began in 2013 and is planned to be finished by Fall of 2019.

This cost of the project was about 4-5 million dollars and took about seven to eight years to raise the money for the project. There is a lot of anticipation for this project to finally be finished after the long awaited time.

Although the school’s principal, Mr. Franz is pretty new at Kelley, he still had a part in the construction.

“The stadium was a completion of the drive to match the nice field, and fieldhouse,” Franz said. “Many students are looking forward towards the completion of the project.”

There are many new features in this new stadium. The comfort of about 300 seats have increased because of seat backs for the elderly as well as the handicapped. There will also be more space for the staircase, railings, entrances, and exits to reduce congestion and fans that have to stand at the fence to watch games.

With the new stadium being finished before the start of the new football season, Michael Hughes (9) is a member on the Bishop Kelley football team and is looking forward to the completion of the project.

“It’s really nice, and I’m super excited to feel what playing with the new stadium is like,” Hughes said. “I’m also excited to see if it will attract more fans to watch our games.”

Tyler Hoang (10) is a student, and a swimmer at the school who enjoys attending home games. He is interested to see how the new stadium turns out.

“I’m excited to see if watching the games will be a lot more comfortable and exciting,” Hoang said. “But I hope the school can build a pool as well.”

The final phase of the Championship Drive will be done and ready just in time for the Comets’ next football season.
