In 1992, Carolyn Hill and Mary Beth Campbell invented  Link Crew. Link Crew is a high school transition program for incoming freshman. The goal is to make them feel welcome. The connections students make also help lower the rates of bullying and increasing school safety. Freshmen learn that people care about their well being and that they don’t need to be scared of the upperclassmen.

Caleb McCullough (10) felt that Link Crew helped him and others in good ways.
“I feel like Link Crew helped me to feel more safe in the school environment. I feel like I already knew a bunch of seniors and my friends before I entered the school,” McCullough said. “I think it has helped prevent bullying, but I also think we didn’t have much to begin with.”

Abby Farley (12) was a leader for two years. She believes Link Crew creates and inviting atmosphere. “I think being a Link Crew leader helps others to feel welcome in the BK community, and it also helps you feel good about yourself because you’re making them feel welcome,” Farley said.

Nathan Myers (10) was a little link and is now a leader. He said how he is anxious to pass along what he learned from his leaders.

“It helped me make friends, and I am excited to be a leader and help kids,” Myers said.

Link Crew strives to do good for others, and Bishop Kelley’s Link Crew will continue to do just that.
