The uniform policy states that students must wear either brown, black, or tan dress shoes. Most students choose to wear the popular brand of dress shoe called Sperry, which can be painful to wear. Although there are other brands of dress shoes, they all have virtually the same problem; they hurt students’ feet.

Students should be allowed to wear tennis shoes to school, because not only do students’ feet become sore, dress code shoes also can cause blistering, which are extremely painful. These complications can happen to the average person, but it is even more painful to those who have extensive feet issues. Students with low arches or different foot related problems also have trouble wearing the required dress shoe. Another reason why tennis shoes need to be an option is that dress shoes wear out quicker than tennis shoes. The arches erode. This causes discomfort when wearing the shoe. Buying several different pairs of dress shoes throughout the course of one year is out of the question for many families. Some would say that wearing tennis shoes to Mass is disrespectful, however, there is an easy way to avoid this conflict. Dress shoes should be required on days with all school Mass, but tennis shoes should be allowed during the rest of the month. This would solve the students’ problems with the uncomfortable and impractical dress shoes, while still being respectful throughout Mass.

Therefore, the dress code should be changed to allow students to wear tennis shoes instead of dress shoes, which have many pitfalls.
