Why are cyber days given, but never used? Our school has cyber days prepared for each school year, and it’s only been used once since the school decided to bring them to Bishop Kelley and it was used the year the policy began.

Gracie McCool (12) thinks the policy is necessary for the safety of the students.

“I’ve been at Bishop Kelley for four years and we haven’t used a cyber day once. We take so many risks by allowing students to drive do school in terrible weather conditions like snow, ice, rain, etc.,” McCool said. “I know we’ve never had a problem and no one has gotten hurt on their way to school in these conditions, but we are still risking so many wrecks that could’ve happened. I don’t think that the school was right to have us come to school, since no one had major trouble getting to school, I think we just get lucky everytime.”

Living in Oklahoma means weather can be anywhere from rain, snow, wind, tornadoes, thunderstorms, crazy heat, and anything in between. It could be freezing cold in the morning, and then warm up to 65 degrees by the time school is over. It could also be the other way around, it could be nice weather in the morning and then we could walk outside and see rain pouring down like crazy. If this happens, students could be stuck at school until things are cleared up, which no one really wants to do.

If it is freezing cold outside, or snowing at school, students should be able to carry blankets around or wear sweatpants under skirts and wear sweatshirts or jackets that aren’t Bishop Kelley apparel. Bishop Kelley still wants students in school, and they still expect them to follow the rules on what to wear. Students could have easily stayed home like our parents would much rather, instead of risking getting hurt while driving to school and drive home after school, so students should be able to feel warm and comfortable while walking all the way to the parking lots or to the STC in these rough conditions.
