Button down shirt, Khaki pants, skirts, belts, Sperrys. All these things are very common among the students that attend Bishop Kelley. These clothes are the uniform for the students that are worn almost every single day of school. This year’s freshmen put their perspective on the uniform. Diego Segovia (9) explains his frustration with the dress code.

“I don’t like wearing a uniform. I just want to wear what I think suits me, not someone else’s decisions,” Segovia said

Students have different opinions on the school dress code. Some opinions is that the school should loosen up the dress code. Many students feel that they cannot  express themselves or be comfortable in the clothes that the school makes them wear.  Ryan Gasaway (10) sees it from a physical standpoint.

“I wish I could just be comfortable in my own clothes,” Gasaway said

Teachers and staff have a different opinion on the effect of the uniform on the student. The faculty believes it promotes a safer environment for the kids. Coach and Teacher Mr. Roepke also sees the comfort argument.

“When the students wear their own clothes, it’s easier for the students to be comfortable,” Roepke said.

The use of uniforms is to place students in an environment better suited for them, however. Students being able to wear their own clothes would be better for the students because they could feel like they are comfortable and would fit in better. The school clothes are not very comfortable clothes and it’s time for a change.
