After dozens of practices and lots of hard work,  the Comet’s varsity basketball team made it to the state tournament on March 8, 2018. According to Bishop Kelley’s basketball twitter, on March 3, Bishop Kelley qualified for the 5A state tournament with a “45-30 win over Edison and Anthony Bomprezzi led Kelley with 17 points.” Before going to state, the Comets got the title of becoming regional champs on February 27.

The basketball team made all the way through the playoffs to the final bracket meaning 8 teams were left to compete for a chance to win the title of State Champions. All the members of Bishop Kelley were surprised and very excited for the team.

Maria De Asis (9) went to the game and showed her pride.

“I was so shocked and happy for the team, it is truly a great day to be a Comet,” De Asis said.

The last team that Bishop Kelley played against before getting eliminated was NW Classen. The boys were in lead for the first and second quarter of the game thanks to the team’s hard work. They eventually fell behind and were defeated. The boys were still very happy and thankful to have made it so far in the tournament. Abby Howard (9) who was also there cheering on the team enjoyed the experience.

“Even with the outcome we still made it to state and i am still so proud and thankful to be a Comet,” Howard said.

At the school, many of the students were very proud of the team and were so thankful to have such a amazing team. It has been a long time since the basketball team made it all the way to state tournament, so getting into the bracket was still an amazing thing for the boys. Several students and teachers at the school are so thankful for all of the wonderful team players.
